Increasing Your Numbers

Increasing Your Numbers

Increasing Your Numbers by Karen Britton, Leader of Troop #144 (From our 2014 September newsletter)     One of the many questions that I hear from new leaders is, “Where do we get new girls?” While every area and troop is different, Miss Kerry asked me to explain some of the things that I have done with our troop. We began our Frontier Girls troop with 15 girls from our GS troop in 2011. Our initial registrations were all Dolphins. By year two, we had 18 girls (Otters & Dolphins and one Butterfly), year three our troop had grown to

Funds2Org Shoe Drive Fundraiser

Funds2Orgs can help you raise funds for your troop by simply collecting gently worn, used and new shoes. They are Florida based but work throughout 48 states. They pay troops $0.40 per pound for all pairs of gently worn shoes, whether used or new. There are never any out of pocket expenses for the troop, and they send their trucks to pick up so there is no need to ship anything. If you are interested in participating or learning more about this fundraising opportunity, follow this link here: https://funds2orgs.com/ You can also contact Tom Henderson by email at tom@funds2orgs.com

About the Service Flag

About the Service Flag   The Service flag is an official banner authorized by the Department of Defense for display by families who have members serving in the Armed Forces during any period of war or hostilities the United States may be engaged in for the duration of such hostilities. The history of the Service flag is as patriotic and touching as the symbolism each star represents in the families that display them. The Service flag (also called the blue star flag) was designed and patented by World War I Army Captain Robert L. Queissner of the 5th Ohio Infantry

Service vs. Motto

The question frequently comes up regarding exactly what type of service should count towards a Servant’s Heart Awards and what type of service should not.  There is a difference between community service and our motto “If you see a need, take the lead.” If you notice someone in the parking lot needs help loading groceries, you offer to help. That is our motto. If you set aside time to go to the parking lot specifically to find and help people load groceries, that is community service. If you mow the lawn for your neighbor while they are sick, that is

What is Frontier Girls

I frequently get asked, “What is Frontier Girls?”  We may be small, but word of our program is growing quickly and many families are anxious to find out more. Frontier Girls was founded on January 19, 2007 as an alternative to Girl Scouts to provide a scout like program for girls that goes back to the values and goals of the original Girl Scouts. Our mission is to raise women of honor to be the mothers and leaders of the future through life skills, leadership, character building, teamwork and service to others.  We seek to instill a love of

Beautiful Make a Difference!

Beautiful Make a Difference!

Beth Henderson, an auxiliary Butterfly member of Troop #109 living in Wales, recently did her Make a Difference Award by coordinating the decor for a formal dinner for a Church function.  She designed, drew and coloured the place mats, coasters, name plates and serviette/napkin rings.  She lead 4 other people by having them laminate the mats and coasters; arrange for matching tablecloths of specific sizes; set up the tables; set up the silverware and china, and select matching serviettes (napkins).  The result is stunning, as shown in the photographs! It never ceases to amaze me the creative ways that girls
